This is the most important document to read before using Selph. It explains what Selph is, what it is not, and when you should see a doctor instead of, or as well as, relying on your report.
Selph provides general, educational skin guidance. It is not a medical diagnosis, medical treatment, or professional medical advice, and it is not a replacement for seeing a doctor, dermatologist, or other qualified health professional. Your Skin Strategy Report is intended to help you understand your skin and make more informed decisions — not to diagnose or treat any medical condition.
Using Selph, completing the questionnaire, or receiving a report does not create a doctor–patient, clinician–patient, or other professional healthcare relationship between you and Selph.
Your report is generated using the Selph clinical framework — a methodology developed and maintained by a qualified New Zealand dermal therapist with more than 20 years of experience — applied with the assistance of AI. It is based on the information you provide and, where supplied, your photos. It is not based on an in-person examination, and it cannot detect anything that an in-person assessment, dermoscopy, or medical testing would reveal.
Always seek the advice of your doctor, dermatologist, or another qualified health professional with any questions about a skin or medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something in your Selph report. If a recommendation in your report conflicts with advice from your own healthcare provider, follow your healthcare provider.
See a doctor or appropriate health professional promptly if you have any of the following. These are examples, not a complete list:
Any products or ingredient types described in your report are general suggestions, not prescriptions. Skincare ingredients can cause irritation or allergic reactions in some people. Before using a new product, patch test it and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Stop using any product that causes a reaction and seek medical advice if the reaction is significant. Selph does not supply, endorse, or guarantee any specific product or brand.
Where your report mentions professional treatments, it does so to help you understand and ask informed questions — not as a recommendation to undergo any specific procedure. Decisions about treatments should be made with a qualified, regulated provider who can assess you in person. Selph does not endorse or guarantee any clinic, practitioner, treatment, or outcome.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking prescription medication (including isotretinoin/Roaccutane or immunosuppressants), or managing a diagnosed skin or medical condition, speak with your doctor before acting on any ingredient or treatment guidance in your report. Some ingredients are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Skin responds differently from person to person and depends on many factors, including consistency, genetics, hormones, environment, and overall health. Selph cannot and does not guarantee any particular result. Any timeframes in your report are realistic estimates, not promises.
Your report is based on the information you provide. Incomplete or inaccurate information will affect its guidance. You use the information in your report at your own discretion and risk, taking your own circumstances and professional advice into account.
